December 19, 2012--NRA Cowards

This usually vocal organization, the National Rifle Association, has been preternaturally silent since the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.

As have been almost all of the NRA's congressional vassals. David Gregory said on Sunday that he invited all 31 NRA-member senators to appear on Meet the Press and most didn't even respond to his invitation and all who did declined to appear. In general, when the studio lights go on, like moths, they are attracted to the flame and you can't shut them up. But not this time.

The New York Times, as of yesterday, said--
Leaders of the organization have declined interview requests since the shootings, the group's Twitter account has gone silent, and it has deactivated its Facebook page.
I understand.

If I were a leader of the NRA I too would be ducking for cover, hoping, waiting for the whole thing to blow over. Expecting, that after other "incidents" of this kind, calls for gun control will fade almost as quickly as the next news cycle. This time, unlike other times when the NRA didn't seem to have a problem going on TV to offer pro-forma condolences and then claim that people, not guns kill people, this time they have been in hiding, silent, cowering.

But this time may turn out to be different. This time 20 innocent 1st graders, all with big beautiful eyes blond hair, and lives unfulfilled were the victims. Most hideously shot up to a dozen times. And this is already motivating some politicians who have 100 percent NRA voting records (shame of all of them for that) to change their views and begin to call for some limits on semi-automatic firearms and "high-performance" magazines that hold more than 10 bullets.

So the NRA is in hiding. Under the rock like other cowards. Quivering in their camoflage outfits, clinging to their AK 47s.
