Mach 25, 2021--The End End
Note the capitilations. This suggests they are serious and that the End they have in mind is not the end of winter but the End-End.
When I raise a skeptical eyebrow, they ask--
What about the storms in Texas.
What about Covid-19.
And of course what about Donald Trump.
I advise them to think about science (and Zoloft) and forget all the conspiracy theories.
It is then their turn to raise eyebrows and walk away feeling sorry for deluded me.
Then something happened that almost got me to join them in what I up-to-then thought, following science, was their paranoia.
In the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament, Oral Roberts "University" knocked off Ohio State (75-72), one of the teams favored to get to the Final Four and perhaps go all the way.
Note the quotation marks. To call Oral Roberts a university is like Kim Jong-un delivering a TED Talk.
But there you go.
The university was founded by and led for decades by an actual Oral Roberts, the charismatic televangelist whose Sunday show was watched by many millions worldwide. Viewers who were only too happy to send him cash came to him seeking cures for everything from quadriplegia to cancer.
"Wheel yourself up to your TVs," he would say, and they did. "Touch the screen and I will touch mine here in Oklahoma. Close your eyes and pray to the lord that he heal you. And He will. Then, throw your walkers and crutches away and stand on your own two feet." And they did. Enough of them to make Oral wealthy.
Wealthy enough to establish a university and eventually a Division One basketball team. The appropiately-named Golden Eagles. They even managed to recruit a few black guys.
I'm thinking this is a genuine miracle. Not just talk about the Apocalypse but to have the spiritual power to lure the Rapture to godforsaken Tulsa, Oklahoma, where big-time basketball is played.
And, I'm thinking, if all this is true maybe Ted Cruz is the Antichrist.
